When I founded The Explorer’s Passage (TEP), I dreamed of one day partnering with the greatest explorers and visionaries on the planet to take our guests back in time and give them perspective on history’s most extraordinary events. I have always been inspired by those people in history that have achieved the impossible against the slimmest of odds.
Six years ago, I was invited to a leadership conference for corporate executives. Reluctant to go at first, I saw that Robert Swan, the first person to walk to both the South and North Poles, would be speaking. I decided to attend but I had no idea what would one day come of that decision. Rob is considered one of history’s greatest explorers, a real life Rocky Balboa who has inspired millions of people across the planet with his ability to set seemingly unimaginable goals and to reach them time and time again. On that day, for 60 minutes, he mesmerized the audience with stories of adventure, failure, and triumph. For me, his speech shook me at my core and could not have come at a more perfect time. I was going through an extraordinary amount of change in my life. I was lost, I felt like I had nowhere to turn to, and I could not see a path forward. However, his example of living a life with purpose and passion served as a model for how I wanted to live my life going forward and provided me the inspiration to begin this journey.
Fast forward, TEP now operates adventures on 6 continents and we produce the some of the most innovative and creative experiences in the travel industry. But the most incredible part of this story is my reconnection with Rob. I am proud to announce that in February 2018 we will be partnering with Rob, his son Barney (who is forging his own distinct inspirational path in life), and the entire 2041 Foundation team on the Climate Force: Antarctica 2018 expedition. We will be taking over 100 people from across the globe to Antarctica, the last great wilderness on earth. What is most special about this voyage though is that we will be using adventure travel as a vehicle to help in the fight against climate change. Climate Change is an issue that is very important to me, Rob, Barney, and the entire TEP, 2041, and Climate Force teams.
This impossible dream that was conceived six years ago has become a reality. None of this would have been possible if not for the many extraordinary people that have come into my life over the past 7 years and supported and believed in this dream. This success is our success and I thank each and every one of you.
